Have you ever looked at the ingredients in your store bought body or face scrub? Yikes! I don’t even know what half of that stuff is.
A much better alternative is to make your own all natural scrubs and we have found for you some awesome (and easy) DIY recipes!
There really is nothing easier than making body scrubs…. all you really need is an exfoliant such as sugar or oatmeal, a yummy moisturizer and some pure essential oil to make it smell amazing.
Did you know? Ingredients in standard Beauty Products are NOT Regulated?
I was completely shocked to learn that the companies that manufacture our everyday shampoos and lotions are basically self-policing. They are the ones who get to decide if a chemical is safe to put into their product, not the FDA. Crazy, huh?
Are Homemade Scrubs Safe?
Honestly, it really depends on what you put into your homemade scrub. Just because an ingredient is ‘natural’ does not mean it is safe to put on your skin, right? An extreme example of that would be mercury.
Also, a scrub that is good for your feet may be too rough to use on your face. Not only that but, you have to consider the shelf life of your homemade scrub.
You certainly don’t want to use an oil that has gone rancid. As with everything else, do your research.

How Long Does Homemade Scrub Last?
In short, it depends on the ingredients you use. In general, the more stuff you put into your scrub, the shorter the shelf life. My simple olive oil scrubs tend to last about a month or so if I store them in an airtight container such as a mason jar.
Always sniff your scrub before using to make sure it is still okay to use. If in doubt, throw it out.
How Can I Make My Homemade Scrub Last Longer?
Keeping your scrub in an airtight container in the refrigerator will help it last a bit longer. Also, if you made a large amount, you can also store part of it in the freezer for later use.
